Thomas Jefferson replaced Benjamin Franklin as diplomat to France, serving from 1785 until 1789. While in France, Jefferson fell in love with the country and French Food. Although Jefferson did not invent ice cream, he was obsessed with the frozen treat just like my wife and daughter. Throughout the Jefferson presidency from 1801 to 1809, there are numerous references to ice cream being served at the White House!
According to Monticello, Jefferson’s own ice cream recipe was inspired by “his time in France and is one of the ten recipes in his handwriting that exists today!” I’ll be sharing more Thomas Jefferson foodie obsessions on this journey!
Ice cream anyone!?
Thank you Mr. Jefferson!
